Football High Live: Scores, highlights as Week 4 starts with a loaded Thursday slate

Concerns over possible heavy rain across the state Friday night caused a seismic shift in this week’s high school football schedule with more than 100 games being moved to tonight.

Tonight’s big games include Vestavia Hills vs. Hoover at the Met, Class 2A No. 1 Fyffe at Whitesburg Christian, Briarwood Christian at Pelham, Spain Park at Thompson and Buckhorn at Hazel Green.

9:31 PM, Closing the gap: Pelham has made a game of it against Briarwood Christian. Clayton Mains hits Darius Copeland with an 80-yard TD pass. The Briarwood lead is 34-28 with 4:08 left. TD came after Briarwood had a TD called back.

9:26 PM, Pirates on top: After a late start, Qualin McCants has scored a pair of TDs and Fairhope leads Mary G. Montgomery 14-0 as we get close to the half.

In the other late start due to weather, Theodore leads Baldwin County 28-0 with 5:59 left in the half. Cam Rigby with a 13-yard TD pass to Demon Sullivan.

With 5:43 left in the game, Coosa Christian leads Decatur Heritage 35-21.

7:02 PM, Another weather delay: Baldwin County and Theodore have yet to kick off at Theodore. They are in a weather delay as are Fairhope and Mary G. Montgomery.

7 PM, Already at the half: Class 2A No. 2 Highland Home and No. 6 Lanett kicked off their game at 6 p.m. They are at the half and tied 6-6. That obviously will mean a shakeup in next week’s 2A rankings.

6:58 PM, Blount fallout: Blount High football players released a video in support of their coach Thursday night. Josh Harris has been put on administrative leave after a video surfaced that appeared to show him spanking a student-athlete.

6:48 PM, Mr. Football? Last year’s Mr. Football runner-up, Earl Woods, warms up for Hueytown’s game against Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa tonight. Hueytown beat Hillcrest in the Class 6A semifinals a year ago.
